The ever-enterprising English music-meister TOBY JEPSON (Wayward Sons, Little Angels, Fastway, Gun) — has announced the release of a new retrospective solo album ‘Viewfinder‘ for 2021.
Toby has now re-released one of the tracks, titled “Unwind” — as a single. The song was originally found on his 2002 EP titled “Refresh”.
“Back in 2002, I wrote ‘Unwind’ as a way of trying to explain my deep feelings of unease…” says the musician.
“About what, I’m not really sure if I’m honest. Therein lies the rub of anxiety and stress… it’s often hidden from view.”

A Jay Hillyer music video (shared below) has been produced for the number. Toby says: “I love this video. I left Jay (the director and creator) to his own devices. I asked him to use old film footage and he inadvertently used one of my favourite silent films – Nosferatu – as the basis […] It perfectly sums up those intense feelings of stress and anxiety that I’m sure we all feel from time to time.”
The song begins with stabbing guitars that seem very capable of wounding, then dust storms of yapping rhythms that bring a rush of excitement and a sense of re-awakening. Once we’re in the thick of things, the number turns into a nimble undertaking with splashes of pop-punk guitar and that remarkable whinny of a singing voice that takes center stage and drives us to satisfaction. And yes, it is fearless & irrepressible. In fact, it’s the perfect anthem to revitalize a faded moxie!
As a producer, Toby’s production credits include working with the Macclesfield rock group The Virginmarys on their critically acclaimed debut album ‘King Of Conflict’ and the success of this led to him working as a producer / arranger for many rock acts, including Saxon, Fastway, and The Answer. as well as being the lead writer, arranger and producer for Toseland.
Toby has also written and co-written songs for and with a wide range of artists, including: Katie Melua, Dan Reed, Russ Ballard, Biff Byford, Hugh Cornwell, Matt Sorum, Giuliano and Dante Gizzi, James Lomenzo, Brian Tiche, and Jim Vallance.
Toby’s most recent band project, Wayward Sons, has been recognized as one of the key bands at the forefront of the UK ‘s New Wave of Classic Rock. He works as a mentor to emerging bands and co-founded Lightning In A Bottle, a music management consultation agency In 2020 the Planet Rock radio station announced he would be joining the team as a full-time presenter.
