Scottish indie pop band, Bwani Junction, have been causing a stir over the summer. Now they’re ready to unleash their infectious new anthem ‘Borneo’ on November 4th.
This huge sing-along single – produced by Paul Savage (Mogwai, Franz Ferdinand, Delgados, Deacon Blue) – will be released on Edinburgh’s Aksatak label.
Swathes of lush golden so
unds surround the insistent “ I don’t want to talk to anybody but you….” chorus – whilst the jangling guitars and the rippling sound-waves resemble the sagging, bending, intricate magnificence of the world’s oldest rainforest.
Tropically sizzling guitars interlace the main harmonic themes. Vocals are sweet and beautiful – and the pace is uplifting and courageous.
The video seems to suggest the experiences of prisoners of war (perhaps at the time of the Borneo Campaign of 1945) when Allied forces liberated ‘British Borneo’ so that the Commonwealth Prisoners – held by the Imperial Japanese army – could be released. So underlying themes appear to be about liberation and deliverance.
