Heiðrik ((Hi´drik) is a Faroese singer, songwriter and producer, who has recently been working on new arrangements for his upcoming debut single Maria’s Donkey.
Heiðrik was born and raised in the Faroe capital of Tórshavn in these mysterious lands. The population of this self-governing country is only about 50,000. The craggy islands are situated in the North Atlantic between Iceland and the Northern and Western Isles of Scotland.
Heiðrik co-produces and arranges all his songs in a style that spans from the uncompromising force of folk music, orchestral pop and electro. Heiðrik has been prolific on Soundcloud – having released over 20 singles on this medium (Maria’s Donkey was originally released in 2012.) For the newest arrangement of the song, he collaborated with the arranger Rosabella Gregory.
We had a listen to Maria’s Donkey:
Pizzicato strings luxuriously lace the dramatically shaky voice as it rushes up the steep Slættaratindur ridges of this song.
To rest in the creeks of sound, or bounce from rocky cliffs that surround the small waterfalls of succulent strings. These abound – hanging majestically all around.
The voice – Aquila-high – has a purposeful pace – and the melody seems ancient and traditional…
It seems as if it were lifted from a smoky folk memory. Although you will be enchanted, you may feel you have heard all this somewhere before…
Little-by-little, the tune expands itself – like heather-moss-lichen – fruitfully grabbing a cliff face.
And then it turns the venerable stonework into something incredibly beautiful… and undeniably perfect.
This is a breathtaking accomplishment.
