Black Taxi is one of NYC’s most prominent live acts, smashing an anything-goes punk ethos together with pop sensibilities and unparalleled energy.
Their style has been described varyingly as “grit-pop” or “dance punk”, and though their songs hint at the Talking Heads, Cake, and Daft Punk, they are driven by something entirely new and infectious.
Next week the band release their ‘Chiaroscuro’ and start a short US tour to promote the disc. They have already released a video for ‘House On Fire’ as a taster. We had a listen:
The thick synth lines spread out like black boot laces across a shiny dance floor. The voice rises in a clear abiding proclivity.
The funkside guitar – with joyous snorts – adds to the eloquently lost atmosphere.
In fact, the whole piece is tinged with a sense of nostalgia and entirely squandered 1980’s flavoured innocence.
The hook of the chorus will hitch at your seams, to pull you into this delightful blur. Magical.
