Rosie Lowe has revealed the video to ‘Right Thing’, the title track from the forthcoming Kwes and Dave Okumu ( The Invisible), produced debut EP, to be released on 2 December via 37 Adventures.
Rosie Lowe was playing violin and piano by the age of five… and by thirteen she had added another four instruments to her repertoire. But it was always singing that was her first love. Inspired by diva muses such as Ella Fitzgerald and Bjork, Rosie eventually went on to develop her own unique vocal style using loops, harmonies, pitch shifting and distortion techniques. Backed by a striking all-girl band on stage, this rich blend of mesmerising vocals, electronics and lithe rhythms makes for a potent brew.
As soon as he was played Rosie’s music, Dave Okumu felt he just had to be involved. He said:
“I immediately recognised a true creative spirit, fully immersed in a beautiful and compelling process. It wasn’t until we met that the value of collaboration really started to become clear to me but as our friendship grew, so did our vision of collaboration.”
“I had this instinctive feeling that Kwes would be a wonderful person to bring into the equation. We’d never worked together in this capacity before and it felt like this could be a really interesting context in which to explore a new creative relationship”.
We listened to the ‘Right Thing’ video directed by Kieren Gallear (DELS). Here’s what we thought:
A chilly piano runs through this piece like a ribbon-band of connective lumen. The phosphorescences are translucent and cold.
Rosie’s voice is launched almost at once – a whisper of cream and butter. A darker voice, accompanying the main shaky vocal, steps alongside, in mesmerizing fashion. Entwined voices approach a host of ratchet-mainspring mechanisms – an under-current of clockwork rhythms.
The ashen glow-light of this piece is as cool and mysterious as those of the crystal-like luminescent flashes seen over a barren winter hill-top. But dig in and button up.
This is as cold and filamental as you can possibly bear.
