Lake Malawi have released their first single – titled “Always June”
The band formed around Albert Cerný (the singer & songwriter of Charlie Straight) in September 2013.
The new band consists of Patrick Karpentski (guitars, bass, vocals), Pavel Pilch (drums) & Jeroným Šubrt (bass, guitars, keys). Dividing their time between London & Prague, their music is influenced by the likes of Baths, Bombay Bicycle Club, Bon Iver, Beck, Coldplay, Everything Everything, Foals, Jinja Safari, Phoenix, Tame Impala & Teenage Fanclub.
We had a listen to Always June:
Exceptional glorified vocals and splendid golden ambition fills this song.
Crisp percussion and a cluttering of intricate guitar-work holds the strands of this sensual evocation in place.
It’s all about heartache and loss… “Noone would know it would end so soon… it’s always June [These things happen in June.]” But overall the song has an upbeat quality – as if the protagonist skilfully dodges the bullet as he sticks his nose into the air with a mighty breath of dignity … then just gets on with his life… notwithstanding what the sky might be made of.
This is an impressive and sumptuous piece of handicraft.
