Songs from Denmark’s Kill J are like bronze castings of impossibly fluttering feathers – the results can be exquisitely perceptive – but they are also bold and heavy enough to be dangerous.
Contemplating their new single ‘Bullet’ is akin to being lured into an alley-way by a Sugar Plum Fairy in her pink tutu – then being savagely attacked by her.
The juddering heart of the beat will keep you from your sleep at night. The trills will cause your fortitude to fail you. And the insistent radar bleeps in this innocent paean will leave you feeling totally insecure.
‘Bullet’ is apparently a reproach to all those baloney beliefs out there. It is written as a criticism of the sadly intolerant and the completely misleading.
J’s vocals not only flutter – they trill uncontrollably – and the music is lively, cartooning and freshly daubed.
If you like the trembling beauty of Björk and the inventive dream pop of of Lykke Li – then you will probably love this.
‘Bullet’ is released on April 7th by Sound of Copenhagen and Chess Club Records.
