Arms Manorialism From MNRS

A band called MANORS (spelt MNRS.) Is that ironic?  Like ‘bad’ manners? Or the kind of “Manors” where the court barons lie up?  Or is it just the name of a character in Downton Abbey?

Who knows, but the spell-binding, hymnic, electropop sounds from this  project by Ben Mercer is causing a stir right now.

Last year MNRS dropped his stunning début “Arms” – we have been listening to it:

MNRS ArmsThis is an incredibly rattly number.

It flitters like a lost insect around a bat-cave of emptiness and sharp corners. It never fully contemplates its impossible loss…

The crystal-clear feminine-sounding voice seems bashed, battered and bruised from the constant vibration of those cardboard drums.

Rooty vibes seem to groan solidly –  like an ill-wind against an ancient bough.

The buzzing synth-bass bites deep into the twinkling casement of sounds.

These move like dizzy  mosquitoes blinded by the roaring sun.
