Imagine Bing Crosby trapped in a dark hoffmann kiln – and singing along to a Beach Boy’s number to keep himself awake – while rabid bats flit over his head… That’s exactly the sound you get with Secret Son.
Their new track ‘Killing Time’ is about hooking up to pass the time. (Not about choosing the right moment for manslaughter.)
So, this has warm and syrupy layers and plenty of sintering guitars that become so hot that the glaze will melt from your coffee cup – and your headphones will become melded to your face.
The vocals are skillfully accomplished – in counterpoint – and this fugue-state helps the song to reach that heavenly feeling of sleepy procrastination and increasing insomnia.
Tom Greenwood’s voice is amazing – and the whole piece drives along like a street trolley surfing through the spray.
Powerfully, without haste. And dangerously.
