If you can imagine the Gallagher brothers going particularly psychedelic – turning into fuzzy lysergic-fuelled caricatures of themselves – then you will ‘get’ the Sydney-based band Sticky Fingers … (not to be confused with countless Rolling Stones cover bands worldwide.)
So ‘Just For You’ starts with a blouson of wallowing piano-daubs and a rhythmic chant of a pace.
After a splatter of drums, Dylan’s vocal topples in. Like an awkward drunken uncle arriving at a family reunion.
The main lyric is almost spoken – but it weaves a spell against the flock of arabesques, established by the wonderfully talented Freddy Crabs on keys.
When the song eventually expands into the full bishop’s sleeves – it becomes a flourishing hive of fun – with ribbons of flying guitar, impulsive vibrations and host of other bright and beautiful shapes.
Then the wah-wahs (Seamus Coyle) reign supreme and the piece becomes an inspired carpet of Haçienda-style grooves, sulking purrs and delusional kinkiness.
Come and get involved!
