The Peach Kings consist of Texas-born Paige McClain Wood and Silver Lake native Steven Trezevant Dies.
They first met in San Francisco and clicked immediately. Drawing inspiration from a range of influences, including Nancy Sinatra & Roy Orbison to Led Zeppelin & The Cramps, the two have developed their own modern, yet timeless sound, that’s simultaneously dark and playful.
Now they issue their ‘Mojo Thunder’ EP. We had a listen:
The title track has some riffs that collapse nonchalantly together – along with the kind of associated buzz you might only find near a super-swarm of killer bees.
The sultry voice of Paige glides with the slightly swishy style of a fancy drunk.
The guitars wail and flex compliantly around the tufts of voice. This all appears quite tacky and lazy.
Our favourite track ‘Hold On’ is lively and spirited. A throbbin’ pace is accompanied by a wallowing guitar.
The crystal vocals on this are clearly defined and fastidious. It is succulent and juicy. This will leave you howling along.
‘Be Around’ is almost ska (produced with a jazzy edge.). The echoing guitars jangle. And the tempo steps-down slowly.
The riffs on this are super-cool and groovy … and that silvery moon voice crescents out – like a timid ray of moonlight on a cold night.
‘Say What’ has a vintage blues-rock beat. The spoken voice is sexy – as it rhythmically pounds out.
It blows – so cool – into your inner ear.
This is so delicious you can only whisper about it.
