Secrets For September are a melodic rock band from the South West of England (Exeter / Plymouth Devon) having had two releases getting to the top end of the Amazon Rock chart as well as being nominated for a South West Music award.
Musically the band have been compared to a mix of influences from the likes of Pink Floyd and Marillion to Kate Bush. They are also often compared to All About Eve.
Their recent ‘Letting Go’ has aching rivulets of piano/guitar.
These that patter down like icy raindrops.
Ellie’s voice is warm and bluesy. It rolls along slowly – methodically – like a wheelchair caught in a muddy track. It seems pasted to the melody.
But this is not a depressing or sad song.
It is about change – and the separation of ways.
It is a song of hope and mastery. About a desire to live one day longer.
And about maintaining the strength that’s needed. To carry on going forwards.
Thus, the guitars and drums buff languidly together – this all helps to create that feeling of change.
And passing.
