The Old Border are an Alternative Rock Band from South West London comprising of Ben Woolford (guitar and vocals) Jimmy Nicholls (guitar) Matt Braid (bass) and Alex Howson (drums.)
Their sound is a mix of hard rock and indie pop – inspired by the likes of Bruce Springsteen, The Replacements and The Gaslight Anthem.
We listened to new single “All Over” –
This has a feathery buoyancy – a bounce and cheerful swagger that reminded us of the Buzzcocks.
But Ben’s vocal, although brown and dirty as a sex shop window on a hot day, is also very picturesque and pleasing – reminding us of very early 1980’s Smiths.
Clearly, not as affected as Morrissey – but equally poetic and distinctive.
This is buzzing indie pop-punk – crafted for the kind of adults who have a grip on reality …
Performed with real zeal and an attitude that has been cultivated in the heartland.
