Strange Things at Stargroves

New York City indie pop band Stargroves and their frontman Teddy Watson have put a creative twist on Swedish (dream pop band) Radio Dept’s song “Strange Things Will Happen” – recently heard on the The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack.

Stargroves’ inventive arrangement of “Strange Things Will Happen” should come as no surprise to listeners who have heard the group’s debut album, which blends strong indie pop melodies with orchestral flourishes, lively instrumental sections, and thoughtful lyrics.

We had a listen:

The original song had echoing ice-cream van nostalgia and creamy synths – these melted like crunchy wafer bars left out in the hot-sun.

The mellow sand-castle keys have been replaced by squeezbox meows and seagull-cry beats.

But there is still a lot of sea-pebble rhythm and blue-sky deck softness in this wonderful piece.

Teddy’s vocals are whipped cream generous – and the fiddle-sound is enchanting – it lifts you high up into the fluffy stuff.

Post-rock happiness with butterfat and vanilla vocals and honey spice musicianship.
