2015 is already shaping up to be the year of Courtney Barnett.
The über-talented singer-songwriter/guitarist from Melbourne is quickly emerging as one of the most innovative and energetic rising-stars of the year.
Courtney has announced some UK Live Dates for later in 2015 [see below]
Her debut album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit was released on 23 March 2015.

We had a listen:
‘Elevator Operator’ is a fun and chugging rock ‘n’ roll jangler. With those lazy, slightly cranky vocals.
This is reminiscent of Sheryl Crow during the “All I Wanna Do” phase.
But this is the far more authentic, with abundant poetic truism and less dependence on Stealers Wheel.
‘Pedestrian at Best’ bursts out of the house though.
This has blood-lines of dark ink-fuzz bass and guitars that screech like an eagle caught in a fishing net.
Now, Courtney becomes all punk and grunge (well, she was in Rapid Transit).
And this number is stuffed with knowing lyrics and an ever-urgent sense of imminent danger.
After that, you might think that she cannot do soul-filled blues.
But you would be wrong. ‘Small Poppies’ has a lazy, undisciplined, airiness about it. And it’s as blue as the crying sky on a midsummer morning.
Shimmers of languid guitar light up those listless rhythms.
And the voice is lusciously pale, revealing half-whipsered confidences deep into your ear.

‘Depreston’ is livelier and buskier. With an eloquent voice and rat-a-tat percussion.
The poetic nature of this beautiful song describes a world that is as instantly recognizable.
This is expertly rendered rock with a poetic, impassive voice that will always make you think, and astonishing creativity found in every corner.
