THE WILD, THE YOUTH is a Manchester (UK) based alt-rock quartet comprising of Steven White, Barry Jones, Lee Crimes and Kieran Joyce.
They seem to create ambient (yet darkish) pop songs that tend to envelope into each another.
We have been listening to their self-titled debut EP:
This starts with the thumpingly beautiful ‘Awake’ and reminds us an awful lot of Pink Floyd…
Albeit with funk at its heart. That idea is (perhaps) missing from the pre-Meddle offerings of the UK’s most famous prog band.
It is a sumptuous affair. Meandering, wide-eyed and wild of guitar. With a warm-hearted voice and smashing drums.
‘Predictable Me’ is much more psychedelic to start with — but it quickly turns into something anthemic. A hymn to a pure heart? Perhaps.
‘The Epicurean’ is tantalizing in its sponginess.
The voice bouncing around. And all over. You cannot quite grasp hold of it. The pace is familiar …. Is it baggy dance-rock? Yes, apparently it is!
This is solidly creative.
With guitars that are extraordinarily smart, more sparkle than a SodaStream going off in a sherbet factory… And lots of jangle found in amongst the electro dance.
