Nicole Turley is the the 34 year old L.A. musician Swahili Blonde.
Founded as a solo project in 2009, Swahili Blonde has always involved a varied and multi-talented collective of musical contributors.
Past collaborators have included guitarist John Frusciante, Duran Duran bassist John Taylor, Slits guitarist Viv Albertine, Devo drummer Alan Myers, as well as Los Angeles scene staples Brad Caulkins (Fool’s Gold), Laena Geronimo (Feels, The Like, Raw Geronimo), and Dante White Aliano (Dante vs. Zombies).
Swahili Blonde’s new release, though, sees her first truly solo studio venture. On this occasion, she plays everything herself. (With the strings of Laena Geronimo.)
The new EP ‘Deities in Decline’ is released today on Turley’s own label Neurotic Yell Records.

We had a listen to “With Love And A Bullet” —
It’s about the delusional idolizing of the people we adore the most.
It is jangled and uneven.
With a cracked drum-machine and the kind of woobly vocals that make you think of an intoxicated Lene Lovich riding a pair of roller-skates. On a trampoline.
This is splintered, other-worldly, neurotic and eminently squishable.
A cross-between clarity and wooziness. Unlikely to be a crowd favourite — this screwball stuff may have its own (secret) admirers.
