This week we have been listening to the EP titled “Boom” from the folk/Americana artist Dara Sisterhen.
The North Carolina singer-songwriter landed a role on the young adult show Victorious (with Victoria Justice and Ariana Grande) in 2010. This led to pilots with Nickelodeon and on Cartoon Network and a part on Disney’s Dog With A Blog.
But Sisterhen is no manufactured pop star or Disney princess. Think, instead, of Kacey Musgraves or Laura Marling, to draw comparisons (if you must.)

Currently based in Nashville, Sisterhen is currently promoting her EP, released in April.
We had a listen:
Lead track “Kids” has tinkling beatpop expression and involving rhythm. The vocal is filled with treble control and spirited lyricism.
“Sets Me Free” has an enjoyable rat-a-shabby beat and lots of smooth curves and delicious corners. Here the vocal feels more organic (less trapped in time and genre) so it can expand expressively.
We head back to 1960’s Liverpool again with “I Wanna Be Your Girl.”
If you liked the Monkees pop / rock style, then you are sure to love this. It is addictive, commercial, accessible… And totally fun!
Touch-your-heart folk songs and neat pop-wonders…. Created with clean beats, silvery vocals… And full of starlight.
