HUMBLE PIE were formed by singer-guitarists Peter Frampton and Steve Marriott, in 1969.
The original line-up featured lead singer/guitarist Steve Marriott who came from the Small Faces, singer/guitarist Peter Frampton who came from the Herd, bassist Greg Ridley wh came from Spooky Tooth, and a 17-year-old drummer named Jerry Shirley, who came from Apostolic Intervention.
Their live rendition of the Ida Cox song Four Day Creep may not have born any resemblance to the original, but the number won-over hard rock fans at the Fillmore East, New York and it kick-started their 1971 Eddie Kramer engineered double-album “Performance Rockin’ the Fillmore“. Shortly after the album was prepped for release, Frampton left the line-up.
Now JOE BONAMASSA and PETER FRAMPTON have teamed up to release a powerful new version of the number.
The collaborative effort between Bonamassa + Frampton gives Four Day Creep an updated feel. In addition to incorporating Frampton’s and Bonamassa’s widely recognised sizzling guitar virtuosity, both artists also provide their vocals to the song, resulting in an interpretation that celebrates the original while ushering in a cutting-edge 21st century flavour.
The vocal lines engage in a character-driven joust, while the sparkling crossover between the guitars zing with reminiscenceful charm and juicy radiant elasticity. Wow, truly wonderful!
