The uncommonly talented Canadian roots rock and soul group BYWATER CALL have released their first studio single of 2026: “Only”.

We’ve described the BYWATER CALL sound as “intoxicating groove-oriented groove-funk soulfulness filled with high-octane rhythmic propulsion and amazing vocals…”

“Only” is a nod to the classic soul hits of the 1960s and 1970s. The love-loss ballad, which features Meghan Parnell’s hickory-smoked vocals and a pleasingly languid rhythmic structure provided by the ever-talented band, is a sincere appeal to stay united while everything around a person is breaking apart.

The sense of offering love more than feeling love is effectively conveyed by the stirring arrangement of this piece, and the soulful background vocals of Claire Davis and Joanna Mohammed (Aphrose).

Meghan benefits from the skip and draw of the lovely melody, the wipe-away organ notes, and the light rat-a-tat rhythms. Gently and generously, the guitar caresses the bluish-velvety firelight vocal. This is a contemplative blue haze memorial to love lost and misty misgiving…

“Only is a simple, yet emotionally powerful tune…” offers the guitarist and co-writer Dave Barnes. “It shows off a sweet, softer side of Meg’s usual powerhouse vocals.”

The song was recorded at Palace Studios in Toronto, captured and mixed by Patric McGroarty, and mastered by Kristian Montano of Montano Mastering.
