Los Angeles indie pop band ‘The Rebel Light’ is getting close to releasing their new single Jukebox Dream – on November 19th.
We had an early listen:
As you lay in your bed shivering – this clean anthem from the long summer summer will bring back memories of sandy beaches and sprinkles on your cream cone. This will put sand between your toes.
‘The Rebel Light’ can weft a magic sound from candyfloss and seersucker – and this song is proudly recorded entirely ‘around a house’, using instruments in the living room and vocals in the kitchen. It is a track that is exultant fun. In the purest sense.
‘Jukebox Dream’ is a tribute to everything that was once light and sweet. When Greg Brady [The Brady Bunch Movie ] took his new song to the nesty record producer, he got thrown out on his ear: “Clowns never laughed before, beanstalks never grew …” But here – in glorious technicolour – is the vengeance of Brady.
The “Sweet memories…” verse is jangly and gritty – with a steam-packet banjo glugging along through it – and a pace that is so touching it will remind you of the flick of a warm puppy-dog’s tail. The vocals are lush silver and cherry juice filled – it is a song that is overflowing with treacly sounds, trip -picking doo-wop moments and an effective sub-current of lightly revving rock ‘n’ roll.
