Experiencing the single ‘Sweetest Thing’ is like wrapping yourself in bubble wrap before tumbling into a hot tub spa. It’s full of moments of foaming, rude squeaks and sudden unexpected intrusion. But, in fact, it is quite relaxing and feels mischievously luxurious. Lulu James was born in Tanzania but has found home in South Shields. She started performing her version of rich 21st Century soul music locally – in Newcastle’s venues – when she was just 19.
‘Closer’ is also a vibrating Über-Cool track … with a luxurious chocolate-fountain smoothness and an underfelt of dark passionate beats. But the siren call of the voice really draws the listener into Lulu’s world. The voice shines and drips like honey. This is a rich and unabashed joy to behold.
Lulu James will be performing at this year’s Redfest in July 2014 – located in the beautiful surroundings of Robins Cook Farm – just 30 minutes from London.
Redfest is a two days music festival now in its seventh year. Redfest has earned a reputation for championing quality new emerging bands, soloists and DJs.
