Melbourne based brother and sister folk act DAN and AMY play beautifully lush and thoughtful folk songs.
With their band, Tom, Sarah and Nick, DAN and AMY play music influenced by a rich history of folk song-writing with detailed harmonies and dramatic arrangements.
Combining contemporary indie influences with 60’s and 70’s folk, baroque textures and Australian singer-songwriter story telling.
“Sometimes Life” – the second single from their debut EP – is due for release in July, following the first single “Pretend”.
We listened to Sometimes Life:
A golden colour-washing of organ-sounds greet us in the preparatory layers of this song.
Dan’s horsehair vocal is sandy.
It rises above a simple strum. And, in the upper layers, it meets with the clarity and the innocence of Amy’s voice.
Blacks, grays and low oxides are hardly visible in this song – if they are present at all, they are located within some of the chords.
Soon the cockle and oyster shell rhythms are constructed by some light military style drumming … and an accompanying fanfare of jubilant horn sounds.
The free energy in this song is rampant.
It is all about slowing or stopping the many natural processes in your life – they’re obfuscating your true direction.
The molecules of this song create a beautiful crystal lattice …
The sounds gradually dissolve into your heart – twisting, sparkling and liquefying – like twisting rock candy dippers.
