PHANTOGRAM is the duo comprised of Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel – from Saratoga Springs, NY.
Their music is a mix of hazy dream pop, dark atmospheres, and head-knocking rhythms melded into a compelling, original sound.
PHANTOGRAM is on the road this summer supporting their recent Republic Records release VOICES, which was called “An epochal album, a generational capstone that will reside in playlists for a generation to come” by The Associated Press.
Recorded in Los Angeles with co-producer John Hill (Santigold, MIA), VOICES follows up the group’s celebrated full-length debut Eyelid Movies [2010, Barsuk] and Nightlife EP [2011, Barsuk], which established them as one of music’s most intriguing indie outfits.

We listened to ‘Black Out Days’ re-mixed by Baltimore’s Future Islands:
Imagine – John Lennon has just returned from his #9 Dream.
And he has a soft onyx-voiced Dusty with him. She hushes out the whispering notes. This is how it might sound…
Between fine crystalline intergrowths of silica-sound – growing like spires.
And a bass – that thuds all the time – like cardiac muscle.
An amazing fleecy voice flees once-and-for-all from the gemcutter incisors of the synth…
To increase and rise celestially…
Before scattering, pattering and dispersing into a thousand palmate pieces.
To reach a stunning and smooth conclusion.
