ETCHES Drives In Ice Cream Machine

Ice Cream Dream Machine’ sees the Liverpool outfit, ETCHES [managed by Hattie Pearson – XFM] – explore a more experimental sound while retaining the pop sensibilities which gained them their initial popularity.

Dealing with lyrical themes of modern-day alienation in a consumer driven world, the song’s abstract social commentary underscores an ominous yet strangely uplifting aesthetic.

Ice Cream Dream Machine’ is released on October 13th via CLUB.THE.MAMMOTH with supporting shows at St Pancras Old Church, London (Oct 1st) and East Village Arts Club, Liverpool (Oct 2nd)

ETCHES shortWe listened to Ice Cream Dream Machine :

The clackety-rhythm is full of mechanical motion– as this thoroughly gold plated number chugs down familiar, well-worn tracks.

And although this has indie-rock pretensions, it’s far more jazz-funk in style and attitude. And that’s a good thing.

The vocals are slick and peaky. And the guitars bring a lot of attitude with them. Groaning chords and sparkling whelps.

It all adds up to a rather smashing – if perhaps nostalgic – dance-driven vehicle.

Footloose post-disco boogie – so groovy that it will make you dance in the streets.
