Marienbad Tartu

Prepping for their first U.S. tour of select cities this January and also the release of their third album – Estonian indie pop collective Tartu Popi ja Roki Instituut have released a video for their song “Marienbad”.

The Estonian eight-piece psychedelic rock collective blends musical experimentation with scientific history. To make something that makes the most of the country’s musical and scientfic achievements.

Taken from the album of the same name “Marienbad” was directed by fellow Estonian Jaak Kilmi (Revolution Of Pigs, Disco and Atomic War) and features the band in homage to silent films.

We have been having a listen:

Finely woven synths create a basket for those gently meowing voices to pamper and scamper into.

The quirking odd-angles of this song button onto you. And they will not let go.

Then there is a secondary motion of dark muddiness – it slips through all the jangle. Making this piece thick and yoghurty.

Weirdacool, hand-loomed.

Strangely soft and oddly structured.

For those who are comfortable with unconventional warp and in touch with their eccentric side.
