Reminding Us of The Horrors — SLOW RIOT Release their Debut Single

The Limerick-based trio Slow Riot are releasing their debut single — ‘City of Culture’ — via Straight Lines Are Fine on July 10th.

Reminiscent of the early garage-rock of The Horrors this Irish post-punk trio consisting of Niall Clancy (vocals / bass) Aaron Duff (guitars) and Paul Cosgrave (drums) have created a three minute blast of angular, chiming guitars and half spoken / half shouted vocal.

The ‘Cathedral’ EP is due later this year and promises to contain several popular songs including ‘Demons’ and ‘Cooper’s Dream’.

Meanwhile, we had a listen to City of Culture:

This has a dark and mysteriously sedimentary quality to it.

It’s like discovering that you have something a bit slippery and grotesquely oleaginous living in your gutters.

But even among the filth of that bogged down bass-guitar and the distractions from the bespattered rhythm, there’s still a kind of hope that glides through.

True, the voice is shot down and despondent… but you will find yourself holding onto the shimmering guitar notes, or you will to subsumed into the sludge.

Regret filled and menacing dark-punk from a rock trio who only just manage to drag themselves out from the ooze.
