The New Album by THE SUMMER TWINS — Limbo has Illusory Moments and Seasoned Harmonies — Review Here

The Summer Twins are duo Chelsea Brown on guitar & vocals and Justine Brown on drums & vocals. The sisters are responsible for almost all the instruments on their discs, but they also tour/record along with with Michael Rey Villavicencio on bass and Andy Moran on guitar.

The California sister’s new album is titled “Limbo” — it will be out on November 13th via cult label Burger Records.

The Summer Twins have recently been opening for Jenny Lewis on the last shows of her Voyager tour.

We checked out the new album:

The record begins with “Blinds” which has the chang of insistent guitar.

The silver-tipped voice chances the dangerous air… and flutters like a moth to the light of the moon.

Soon things get busy though, with waves of cello-like sound that grab your lapels,  and percussion that starts pecking at you with a vengeance.

The voice, although polished, steps awkwardly. This means that there is a general sense of unease across the track, despite its charm.

Demons’ has some ready-steady-go organ and the kind of twisting clappiness that takes you back to the hop. The harmonies are chirpy and magnificent. It’s as if The Crystals had gone to bed with a hangover, after listening all night to Jefferson Airplane, and had woken up in the morning a bit sour, and slightly psychedelic.

Florence’ has grungy aspirations and lazy, fantasy guitars.

This would be a good starting point, if you were a fan of punk or an out-of-work rock ‘n’ rolla. Of course, the charming voice still sizzles and writhes. But otherwise this is a piece of organic rock — brilliantly flexed and superbly embellished.

Faded by the sun, ‘Our World’ has vintage atmosphere and a loving, waltzing enchantment.

Picture Connie Francis swaying in her sun-dress while all her favourites are played on laundry select-o-matic. And you get the idea!

If you like 1950’s hop tunes and crazy 1960’s garage rock, with seasoned harmonies,  illusory moments and a good splodge —  here-and-there —  of faded psychedelia — check this out. A delight!
