American folk duo SHOVELS & ROPE from Charleston, South Carolina comprise of husband and wife Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst.
They have succesfully combined threads from their individual solo careers to blend traditional folk, rock and roll, country rock, and punk rock.

We have been listening to the recent single EVIL taken from the outstanding album Swimmin’ Time —
This is damaged, supernatural and even slightly delusional. Yet highly evocative and as addictive as opioids on crack.
The poisonous Southern Ivy rhythms drive deep into your neural tissues and play havoc with your finer feelings.
The vocals are as murky-damp as a swamp-fog on the Summer Solstice… and the guitars buzz around your head like mosquitoes on the porch.
Pure American darkness with a slimed-up country twist…
