JOHN SMITH — New Album

Having recently finished up tours playing for Lianne La Havas and Lisa Hannigan, the acclaimed guitarist and singer-songwriter JOHN SMITH has announced details of a new album titled “Headlong” due out May 19th and produced with Sam Lakeman (brother of Seth & Sean) and mixed by Ruadhri Cushnan (Flo Morrissey, Mumford & Sons.)

Along with Headlong John will play a series of spring & summer concerts — see dates below

John Renbourn

Headlong’ is dedicated to the memory of English PENTANGLE guitarist/songwriter and folk legend John Renbourn [pictured, left ] who once tipped Smith as ‘the future of folk music...’ and who was a close personal friend.

Speaking about ‘Far Too Good’ — the fresh track shared from “Headlong” — John said: “This is one of my favourites from the new batch. I’ve opened all my live shows with this lately. It’s one of those songs that wrote itself, a rare occurrence  — I’d just got off the phone with a friend who was having a hard time, so this one is for him…

We listened to “Far Too Good” [shared below] which we found had an omnipresent rhythm that suggested a choppy, bumpy ride. Though the voice is calming, golden & gluey… like kumquat marmalade with a warming honey-fruit flow pattern that oozes through all of life’s bitter disappointments. [Words: @neilmach 2017 ©]
