PROJECT MAMA EARTH is an all-star band comprising Brit Awards winning, Grammy nominated soul vocalist JOSS STONE, with nu-jazz guitarist NITIN SAWHNEY, plus Stone’s “Soul Sessions” drummer JONATHAN JOSEPH, jazz-fusion bass-guitarist ÉTIENNE M’BAPPÉ and JONATHAN SHORTEN (keyboards).

Jonathan Joseph – unique rhythms…

The possibility for catastrophe was huge,” says Joseph, the instigator (along with Stone) for the project. “It could have completely tanked. But the minute everyone stood in the studio, before we even touched an instrument – I just knew.”

Only ten days after they came together to share ideas and impulses, and after a concentrated period of co-production by all five members — the Mama Earth sessions were completed. The short time frame made the sense of journeying and raw spontaneity all the more tangible.

Yet the listener senses the story is only just beginning…

PROJECT MAMA EARTH is dynamic, impulsive and breakneck. And it’s an album different from any other the five musicians have tried before. Anomalous in the current dispassionate studio-scene, where pre-production and preparation are everything…

Joss Stone – splendid soft-jazz vocals…

This will surely make waves on its launch on November 10, 2017.

I guess this album is essentially how I think of music,” suggests Sawhney. “It was all about being open to the moment. I think that’s really what I loved about this project. To me, Mama Earth is what music should be about, really…”

The first video from the project is released this week [see below.]

Mama Earth” is a spiritual and lively wonder with heaps of expression, and a mix of influences that includes Brazilian and African rhythms, juicy Stax-style horns and splendid soft-jazz vocals.

For lovers of unique rhythms and contemporary world-music.

Project Mama Earth – ‘Mama Earth’ is released: 10 November 2017 via Mascot Label Group/Provogue
