Back last century… long before the musicians listed below were even born, back in the dark days of ’85, the ancient British composer PAUL HARDCASTLE released the chart-smashing & stuttering anti-war requiem titled “19”. That song is the inspiration for this article…
Since it’s now nineteen and these Gen Z teens have only known a millennial world we thought it fitting to bring you the best of the nineteen.
So here are nineteen up-and-coming music stars who are the average age of just “N-n-n-n-nineteen, nineteen, N-nineteen, nineteen…”
1: AULIʻI CRAVALHO
Disney princess and native Hawaiian Moana character, AULIʻI CRAVALHO is also Lilette Suarez in the NBC drama series Rise. An Oahu talent agent spotted her at a competition and encouraged her to audition for Moana. The soundtrack peaked at No.2 on Billboard and Cravalho replayed her role in Polynesian/Hawaiian.
The R&B/Pop artist Bethia Ward, aka BETHIA from Reading UK entertains with what we have described as, “highly infectious and truly relatable songs…” “What About You” for example is full of witty wordplay, generous feeling and angelic harmony.
Cellist and alternative-folk artist BRUCH has an eagle-high voice that’s experimental enough to sound like it’s jetting into silver-bird territory one moment, though it can be husky & sophisticated the next. BRUCH creates jazz-pop with acidic soft-centres inspired by Björk, Fever Ray and Aurora.
4: CHLOE AND HALLE
The Grammy-nominated American contemporary R&B sister act, CHLOE & HALLE Bailey started by covering pop songs on youtube when they were “discovered” by Beyoncé and given a spot in the 2016 Lemonade visuals. In 2017 they released a mixtape and released a theme for the Black-ish sitcom spin-off series Grown-ish. They produced and wrote their own album, “The Kids Are Alright” back in March (and the title track features on the A Wrinkle in Time soundtrack) and their recent “Cool People” is soft and uniquely captivating.
The Latin American GRAMMY nominated boy-band CNCO formed on the first season of La Banda comprises of Joel Pimentel, Richard Camacho, Erick Brian Colón, Christopher Vélez, and Zabdiel De Jesús. Last year they released their second, self-titled, album and embarked on their first U.S. Tour. 6: ELLEN TEFANIS
During his Ripcord World Tour stop in Brisbane, Australia, country music superstar Keith Urban was joined on stage by a special musical guest star, the 19-year-old guitarist ELLEN TEFANIS. Aged ten she was already the youngest top-10 debut artist in U.S. History. Since then she’s done almost everything possible… culminating in an interpretation of Sam Smith’s “Writing’s on the Wall” and a cover of Skylar Grey’s “Coming Home (Part II)”
9: LIL PUMP
There’s a gag going around about “Gucci Gang” Miami born singer LIL PUMP aka. Gazzy Garcia : Barber: So what kind of hairstyle do you want? Lil Pump: Yes.
This quip tells you half of what you need to know: The guy has gummy-worm hair and is, perhaps, a few bricks shy of a full load. But the rapper is already a certified triple platinum winner and he used the Soundcloud platform to get where he wanted to be. Now he collabs with high-and-mighty such as Smokepurpp, Gucci Mane, Lil Yachty, Chief Keef, 2 Chainz and Kanye West. Who’s laughing now?
10: MEGAN BIRD
MEGAN BIRD worked with Ivor Novello award winning songwriter Eliot Kennedy for her debut single “Affirmation” released last September and her output is rousing anthemic, dynamic pop-rock. So obviously one-to-watch.
11: MOLLY MCKINNA
Twenty year old MOLLY MCKINNA from Brighton is studying music in Surrey, UK. She takes the ambience of modern alternative music and brings an introverted look into personal, yet relatable experiences, inviting the audience to visualize their own story within the soundscape. Her soft, melodic voice on creative self-penned works such as “Lighten Up” has been described as “mesmerizing.”
12: NATALIE CLARO
High energy, cart-wheeling drummer and all-round alt-rock entertainer and talented singer-songwriter NATALIE CLARO creates folk-rocky extravaganzas such as “Mountains” with addictive rumbling and irrepressible vocals.
13: NATALIE SHAY
Brit School trained NATALIE SHAY is already an award-winning artist who has worked with Pete Dowsett (The Vaccines) to create mesmerizing songs such as ‘This Feeling’. Her latest single “Yesterday” showcases a munificent voice of remarkable radius in a song of exuberant proportions.
NOVA [Julio Franceschi ] is the fresh-faced young American rapper from Reading, Pennsylvania, who rose to fame after he won “JD” Jermaine Dupri’s Lifetime network’s popular show “The Rap Game” Season 3. He comes from a family of show-time singers (the NuJack 5) and sings about his home town. Some have dissed his rapping skills since the show and recent recordings such as “Break it Up (Faded Love)” ft. Jermaine Dupri seem to showcase his singing style.
15: PAVEL POPOV
Last year, amid a buzz of publicity, the Finnish hard rock band Santa Cruz announced they would be replacing their existing lead guitarist with 19 year old guitar prodigy: PAVEL “Pav Cruz” POPOV. His latest single “Now I’m Here” is a gently strummed ballad that is reminiscent of early Bon Jovi, but really it’s his guitar shredding that gets all the network hits.
16: QUINN SULLIVAN
Massachusetts born singer and guitarist QUINN SULLIVAN started taking guitar lessons aged three! He’s already shared stages with Buddy Guy and B.B. King and appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show. His Tom Hambridge produced 2017 album “Midnight Highway” contains some atmospheric instrumentals and squelchy singles like “Something for Me” with boogie beats and divine licks.

18: SCOTT HELMAN
Canadian singer-songwriter SCOTT HELMAN released his début EP titled “Augusta” in 2014 on Warner Music and has already been tipped as the “new” Jeff Buckley. His 2018 “Hang Ups” is chippy without being aggressive. And it’s inspirational and infectious.
19: WILLOW SMITH
WILLOW SMITH is famous for her hair-whipping but it’s a shock to discover that the song is already nine years old. Back in 2010 Willow was described as the “baby Rihanna.” which probably didn’t please father Will Smith or mother Pinkett. She’s being moderately quiet since her 17th birthday release of “The 1st.”
