The wonderful Americana and British Blues/Country singer-songwriter ELLES BAILEY creates emotion-stuffed ditties that often brim with cheerfully bopping beats yet contain hints of anguish and forgiveness. Her songs are brought with a charming yet sometimes distinctively briary voice that imparts unmistakable frisson. We once described her vocal as: “huskier than a branchful of hazelnuts, yet smooth as a sea of silk…”
The Bristol girl now announces the physical CD release of her new album Blacktop Companion, as well as the fabulous first track from the album, along with its brand-new, accompanying video.
The new disc: Blacktop Companion is a special 9-track companion disc to Elles’s successful second album Road I Call Home that RAW RAMP described as “breathtakingly intimate…”
It’s available for pre-order on her website and features 3 fully-produced, previously-unheard tracks from Elles’ Road I Call Home recording sessions in Nashville; 3 live-in-the-studio alt band versions of songs from Road I Call Home; acoustic versions of Miss Me When I’m Gone and Medicine Man; not to mention a cover of Levon Helm’s When I Go Away.
“For me,” says Elles, “Blacktop Companion marks the continuation of this epic Road I Call Home adventure that I have travelled for the last year or so and it tells a lot more of the story! Elles Baliley’s live band are: Joe Wilkins on guitar and backing vox, Matthew Waer on bass and backing vox, Jonny Henderson organ and backing vox and Matthew Jones on drums and backing vox.
The first single to be taken from this selection of songs is a fully-produced cover of John Prine’s marvellous “Angel From Montgomery” with liquid keys, soul-filled passion, twangy guitars and a rootsy, smoky atmosphere.
The single release date coincides with the Americana fest in Nashville, USA, where Elles will be performing. Then she returns to Europe to tour through Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Germany, and will open for Kris Barras at the end of October before heading out on her own headline tour of the U.K later.
