The song If This Is Love (video shared below) is a jim-dandy, ready-to-dance hoedown, with Elles’ stunning maroon cashmere voice lulling the pace and ribboning the rhythms. This track compares very favourably with The Woman in Me era Shania Twain.
It’s amazing how honest the storytelling is in Ballad of a Broken Dream. Lines such as: “and the ones who choked on all his smoke feel the burden of the flame…’ can be interpreted both literally & figuratively, as in our situation, we became (over time) chronic secondhand smoke (SHS) victims. Elles has a captivating songvoice that doesn’t grow overly mushy yet, at the same time, continues to tempt and lure. This song has a convincing and realistic ring to it.
For lovers of blues-rock, her smoky, fragrant voice on Leave The Light On will send goose-shivers down the curves of your heart! There is some superb guitarwork by Joe Wilkins. And the chorus maintains that somewhat disconcerting anxiety that often accompanies the enfoldment of unexpected love while still being pleasantly upbeat and exciting. So shrewdly ambilingual!
Silhouette In a Sunset is a country-style blues-pop number that is perfect for listening to as you tiptoe across a bedroom holding back the tears. It has that type of soft progression, resilient message, and dramatic cloud & brandy voice that will cocoon your heartplace.
