Toronto band BYWATER CALL have released their first single of 2025, titled Sunshine (live) which will be their first official live release.
Bywater Call’s hallmark are their intensely moving live shows that showcase the band’s dynamic interaction with Meghan Parnell’s voice —sweet as honeydew —that will slash through their perfect melodies like lemon-acid!
The songs themselves become full-fledged anthems of salvation or, occasionally, swirling veils of insecurity. Dave Barnes’s astonishing, flawless bottlenecking supports Meg’s perfect articulation and turns their set pieces into melodic extravaganzas. Aesthetically, “Sunshine” is a vibrant funk-infused, soul-filled, electric blues composition that showcases the band’s vivacious interplay with Meghan’s expressive vocals. It’s a fluttering potpourri of ragged rhythms, plaint bass notes, cheerful guitar vibes, and heartfelt vocals. It would make anyone’s day!
“Lyrically, Sunshine paints a vivid picture of two people, each chasing their own version of a brighter future, however flawed it may be, and holding onto that vision even when things fall apart,” says Meghan.
“It captures the resilient human spirit, reminding us that no matter how tough things get, there is a glimmer of hope just waiting to break through.”
The number was recorded live during the band’s 2024 tour at the Arlington Arts venue in Newbury, UK. It was mixed by Bywater drummer Bruce McCarthy in Toronto, Canada. The video was shot by Lightning House Media over the course of two sold-out shows at the historic Rivoli in Toronto in December.
