SPENCER MACKENZIE — Shoot Me Down Review

The JUNO nominated and Maple Blues Award winner SPENCER MACKENZIE will return with a new album titled “Empty Chairs” out via Gypsy Soul Records on February 20th, 2026.

Ross Hayes Citrullo, a two-time Juno Award nominee and Emmy Award winner, produced the album.

We’ve described Spencer’s voice as “jackshaft oil and grit…” and his musicianship as, ”spirited and refreshfully superbrisk.”

Angulated and subtext super-spiky!

Spencer has now released the second single from “Shoot Me Down”.

Shoot Me Down” is a visceral meditation on unilateral affection and the burden of bearing a relationship by oneself. Therefore, the song bites deep into sullen atmospherics with an inspiratory slide guitar and a set of hardscrabble rhythms. The vocal lines are passionate and set against agonizing tonalities contained within a tattered and glittering blues-bleat. In other words, it is angulated and super-spiky!
