A flawless musical gift…
“My Freedom” is a traditional blues-bop with chunky guitar, blips of bass, squirts of organ, rat-a-tat beats and, of course, Miss Emily’s jazz-soaked red wine and moonshine vocals. This track is stylishly elegant.
The same light taps of rhythm build across “Stand Together, Band Together” which becomes an expressive song-burst of jubilation that will calm, engage, and bring together an audience.
“Solid Ground” (shared below) is a soft waltzing performance with gently brushed beats and silver-plate jitter. The voice is as clear-cut as a full moon on a crisp night; deadeye, lofty, and forgiving.
“The song was written during an extremely vulnerable time when my daughter was incredibly young,” says Miss Emily.
“We were very poor; I had no financial support and no close family living nearby. There was so much I couldn’t give my daughter during that time, but I knew I had all the love in the world for her and somehow, I would find a way to make her feel secure. This song is that promise to her.”
The album title track, “The Medicine” is a personal expressing of anguish. Thanks to the healing sounds and the calming sentiment, the soothing voice rises warm as woodsmoke, and gentle as swansdown, so the listener emerges beyond any melancholy to discover moments of pure cloudlit glory. Compassionate.
