Producer, songwriter, and talented music-making journeyman TYLER BRYANT, a two-time Grammy Award winner born in Texas, has unveiled his third solo single, “Mama Like To Rock,” complete with an official music video (shared below).
Bryant’s latest track, co-written with his wife, the GRAMMY winner Rebecca Lovell of Larkin Poe, highlights his developing Americana-influenced style.
We’ve described Tyler’s output as, “moodier than a torpid afternoon spent fishin’ for ‘gator in a peppered swamp…”
After leading the highly regarded rock band Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown for years, a group that toured with ZZ Top, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, and the iconic Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bryant is now forging ahead with a promising solo career.
His debut solo track, “Falling Up,” acted as a “warm-up,” connecting his time with The Shakedown to the more personal style of his future projects. The song received Classic Rock Magazine’s “Track of the Week” honour and was featured on their Hot List.
His follow-up solo single, “Planted,” took a stripped-down view on life and offered a more vulnerable approach to songwriting, marking a turning point in Bryant’s creative journey. “I told myself it was time to be has honest as possible and share the real stuff,” Bryant explains.
“For years, I’ve written songs to process life and kept them tucked away, it’s scary to be vulnerable. But I’ve reached a point where sharing that side feels necessary.”
Thus, Bryant’s newest song, “Mama Like To Rock,” is a cheery, roots-inspired piece about cherishing tradition and family love.
“‘Mama Like To Rock’ came to be on a sunny Tennessee morning in late September,” Bryant shares.
“I’ve got a brand-new son named Jesse and I love sittin’ out on the porch with him and his mama. I started singing little tunes to make them smile, and this song just stuck. My family inherited a beautiful old nylon string guitar from Rebecca’s grandfather. We have a picture of him playing it. It’s really the only guitar we keep in our house and has become our main songwriting tool.
Her grandfather didn’t play much, but that guitar is still a piece of his legacy, because we think about him when play it. It isn’t lost on me that his guitar was instrumental in the birth of this song.”
Bryant’s new studio, Crosstie Recordings in Nashville, TN, hosted the recording, which included a notable group of musicians including Scott Mulvahill on Upright Bass, Chris Powell on Drums & Percussion, Simon Maartensson on Keys, with Tyler himself on Guitar and vocals, and Rebecca Lovell on Vocals.
Bryant’s “Mama Like To Rock” showcases Tyler’s evolving creativity, delivering a heartfelt piece that is genuinely compassionate, observant, and self-defined.
