The acclaimed guitarist, singer-songwriter, and South African Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee STEVE LOUW has released a live single and performance video (shared below) titled “Across The River (Live In Nashville).”
Produced + recorded by Kevin Shirley, the track features Reese Wynans on keys alongside Bob Dylan’s touring guitarists, Bob Britt and Doug Lancio.
We’ve previously described Louw’s fare as “generous beanpots of sound that serve difficult and craggy truths.”
The track was recorded live at The Analog Room in Nashville (frequent haunt of George Thorogood & The Destroyers, Peter Frampton, and Dave Stewart) on December 13th, 2025, as part of Kevin Shirley’s “Caveman’s Xmas Bash.”
Originally a song driven by both intimate and expansive metaphors—bringing the listener along with its richly descriptive narrative arc, “Across the River” takes on a completely new breadth of feeling in this live recording. Here, it transforms into a song of praise, seizing the expressive emotional scope that has become Louw’s profoundly individualistic songwriting trademark.
“It is a song of longing… for release, for freedom, for love, and for peace,” Louw shares.
The live performance of this song becomes far greater than any typical country-rock song; it’s a bracing exclamation of wonder, of abundance, and of salvation.
Ultimately, “Across the River” invites us to consider the potential for liberty that lies, for all of us, just beyond the turbulent waters of our everyday lives.
