Dorset (now London, UK) Folk/Pop chanteuse Ella Squirrell has released her Loop EP this week.
Ella picked up her first instrument aged 10. She copied folk songs on an Irish penny whistle, before moving on to the guitar when she was aged 11.
Song-writing is a cathartic process for Ella.
She sees it as the best outlet for strong emotions, whether she is feeling down or feeling really happy. Allowing herself to be honest in her song-writing is the key to her creativity.
She reveals herself on the new EP.

We had a listen:
‘Quiet Fire’ is gently jazzy, with soluble bluebells of sound that ring out softly… and a voice that reminds us of Sade Adu in purring strength and melodious authority. This voice has a quality that leaves a velvety finish
It’s a song of gold that will develop craving ambition in your heart … but may also mask a painful longing.
‘Trouble’ has a yearning, muted trumpet solo to announce the slow pace. And then that incredible voice. This is a mosaic of clever sounds, cocky low notes and smart ideas.
Exquisite jazzy-folk with a warm voice and tuneful lines so sticky that they will cling to the insides of your skull, to leak out in your sleep.
