Intelligent Indie Rock — OH GERONIMO Assesses The Flood

Burlington, Ontario post rock / indie outfit Oh Geronimo published ‘The Flood’ after Ciarán Downes (vocals and guitar) experienced a flooded basement after particularly long rains.

This had an effect that was saddening, as many sentimental items were slowly destroyed by mold and damp.

We listened to The Flood which was recorded and mixed by Simon Larochette at The Sugar Shack in London, Ontario.

As expected, this drip-drops methodically. The words filter through the pages of the lyric.

The guitars try valiantly to dry things out and the rhythms flutter like moths fleeing the intrusive cataclysm.

The banjo is superbly brave (Kyle Robertson) and gives a glimmer of hope. But the rains continue to fall downward in the shape of guitars, sparkling.

Mixed emotions, here, allow things that need to be forgotten to slip away gently.

This is wonderfully passionate and intelligent folk-rock for people who believe everything in life has a purpose and hidden meaning.
