The Indie Singer Songwriter NICKY RUBIN is a man who followed his dream.
After a lifetime traveling the world, playing live music, he is back where he should be — with a new single and promising of a studio album later in 2016.
I’ll Never Forget You is the quintessential soundtrack of a free life spent traveling the world.
Nicky ran away from his home-town, Manchester at the age of 17 — hitch-hiking his way to Calcutta and beyond, —gigging in every bar and dive along the Silk Road for the next 4 years. He busked from the Khyber Pass to Paris — always singing his stories of quite a remarkable life. After a twelve- month European tour based out of Vienna, Nicky returned to London to complete his first album —War & Peace…
The next few years were spent gigging in far-flung destinations, writing songs about his continuing adventures, from Tanzania to the Crimea via New Zealand and South Africa and the continents of North and South America. He settled down in the Ukraine for eight years to explore his Russian roots — and this is where his 2nd album was conceived — Displaced.

Now Nicky has teamed up with a new band plus his old “War & Peace” producer Daniel Steggall, for his latest release — I’ll Never Forget You
It features the lush strings of Stella Page (Elbow/Blur), the drums of Nikolaj Bjerre (Lamb), the cinematic sounds of Pippo De Palma on guitar with Tiago Dias (Loungedelic) on bass plus the soulful voice of Valerie Ettienne (Galliano) on backing vocals.
We had a listen —
The rhythm guitar chatters whilst the strings circle and wait like buzzards on a warming thermal.
The voice is sober and dignified… It has Gold Dollar brightness and dark ‘n’ light accents.
But the melody —though beautiful and yearning — is not terribly exciteresting …
This song lacks drama and depth…
It’s pleasant enough, with accompaniments that are top grade… but it’s just a bit lame for our tastes …
