THE POSIES Announce Album SOLID STATES + European tour — New Free Track Here

Seattle’s power-pop legends THE POSIES have managed to survive many tribulations over a four decade career.

Now they are distributing a free download of a fantastic new album track titled ‘Squirrel vs Snake’ [hear it below]

The band almost broke down last year, though, when long time drummer, Dario died suddenly and unexpectedly. Founder members Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow found it difficult to continue the project without their dear friend and such a great musician. They decided it called for a reinvention.

The band settled on presenting a new album — SOLID STATES — in a novel format, unifying laptop elements along with guitars, keyboards and drums. The familiar vocal harmonies and lyrical agility still remain.

The “Squirrel vs Snake ” is all about the state of the “dis—union” in the USA [and beyond… ] the disharmony, the dangers to our less cherished intellectual freedom, the pessimism that abounds and all the falsehoods that we take for granted every day in this time of doublespeak.

We had a listen:

The voice is sunray clear, wavering a little in front of the rhythm guitars that flutter as the crystal synths shine.

There is a troubling buzz somewhere beneath and bedevilment in every utterance. This is layer-upon-layer of clever juxtaposition.

It’s as if Simon & Garfunkel once met Joe Strummer over at George Martin’s Abbey Road studios (perhaps in 1967) and this is what they came up with. Delicious!
