This weekend ANNA OF THE NORTH [Anna Lotterud] the Gjøvik born electro & dream-pop songwriter/artist from Norway (now based in Melbourne, Australia) who writes in “a surge of foaming emotion” with New Zealander Brady Daniell-Smith release their longed-for debut album “Lovers” via Honeymoon / +1 Records / Different Recordings.

It’s an album rooted in frozen heartache — with the ever-present convulsions, self-reproach and provisionary pleasure (of ultimately letting oneself move on) after a collapsed relationship.
You can stream the entire album via RAW RAMP [below]
“Someone” the second single taken from Lovers is an icy variant… perhaps of California Gurls by Katy Perry. Though no less likeable, in spite of that.
With an oscillation of pluming synth, and a generous tufting of rhythm… it’s clear that Anna has the sheerest topknot voice on the circuit.
Title track “Lovers” is dreamlike and surprisingly positive.
With a translucent quality it’s as fragile yet perhaps as dangerous as a break-off bluey from a floating ice-tongue that threatens the sea-lanes — and with “Bergie Seltzer” beats and the kind of aerial majesty that suggests eventual seraphic rapture… this will break-your-heart and embalm it synchronously. Perfect.
