The Canadian born UK based singer songwriter MELISSA BEL tends to conjure compositions that marry folk-pop with country-tinctured leanings to bring hummable adventures. We’ve been watching her since her 2015 hit “Stay Gone.”
She says her new number, titled ‘Sunshine’ (written with country-music composer Kris Bergsnes) is about having: “high hopes for something or someone” and is a gentle piano accompanied flicker of melancholy beseechment.
The lamenting lyric is imploring and the fluttery voice is part beatific songbird and part mourning angel. This is an especially revealing and heartbreaking song. Sometimes anguish brings the most cathartic beauty.
