RAW RAMP
With its down South blues connectiveness and its empathy, it’s a forgiving piece. The contrast between the iridescent moonfly guitar and the crumbled creekbed voice is hypnotic; and the groove is deeper than the hole that’s, perhaps, found in all our hearts.
“Heartbreak City” is a bold, unfiltered collection of songs highlighting McCray’s peak abilities, and is produced by Grammy-nominated duo Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith.
Blending raw blues, vintage soul, Southern grit, and hard-earned truth, the ten-track album boasts contributions from Reese Wynans, Kirk Fletcher, background vocalists Jade Macrae and Dannielle De Andrea, and Joe Bonamassa on guitar. The album was recorded at Sunset Sound in Hollywood and mixed by Alan Hertz.
This latest album is a follow-up to McCray’s celebrated 2022 comeback, “Blues Without You,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Blues Chart and we described as ‘a super-loose blessing of authentic blues!‘ After this, McCray’s induction into the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame in 2024 solidified his status as a Midwest blues legend.
