Daughn Gibson (born Josh Martin) is an American singer-songwriter from Carlisle, Pennsylvania, USA. He was formerly the drummer for stoner metal band ‘Pearls and Brass.’
Daughn has now announced a new album ‘Me Moan’ on Sub Pop – out on 8 July 2013. When we listened to ‘The Sound Of Law’ from ‘Me Moan’ we thought that his “Johnny Cash [vocal] was complex and mushy [..] it exudes like sap-ooze from a black maple… or chewing tobacco and bitter Moxie.”
Daughn’s music is immediately striking – through the use of dusty thrift-store records and cutting edge technology, Daughn shook the ghosts out of scratchy Christian folk records and baptized them as fierce Americana with his booming baritone voice. His songs are as frequently tender as they are prurient, as hopeful as they are brimming with despair.
Daughn Gibson has now revealed the freewheeling video for ‘Kissin on the Blacktop’, directed by Jeremiah Rouse. The track is lifted from Me Moan, released last week. It is currently Rough Trade’s ‘Album of the Month’.
Daughn will also return with a full band to tour the UK in late August/early Sept, stopping off at End of the Road. Dates below.
