Imagine the rude girls on Eric Boman’s famous cover for Roxy Music’s ‘Country Life’ album coming to life – then somehow interacting with a dusty Widow Twankey version of Lana Del Rey and a greasy Napoleon – to get any idea of the crazy sauciness of this hypnotic Jefferton James video from the Sydney indie pop group The Griswolds.

Christopher Whitehall, Daniel Duque-Perez, Tim John and Chris Riley have come up with a rumbling song of tropical fruitiness and cluttering percussive moments. Guitars are all beautifully jangly and almost always tinkling while the melody is fresh and compelling.
The song seems to imply that they do not take our Lana’s claims all that seriously: “Poor Little rich girl, Poor little rich girl” – and the sentiments are all served up like an outrageously colourful cocktail.
This song is weightless, exciting and full of joy. It’s as daffy as a restless cricket kept in a matchbox – and as light and wobbly as a bubble in a bottle.
If you like pop songs to be morally sassy – without being transgressive – and love a good vid … This is for you!
