Greasy Slicks Go Into The Night

The Greasy Slicks consist of Jack Kendrew on guitar and vocals, drummer Rian O’Grady and Nathan Rasdall on bass.

They formed in 2012 through a mutual appreciation of traditional and contemporary blues rock and strive to create the songs that don’t sound like anyone else;  The results reflect just how unique they are as musicians and songwriters.

The Greasy Slicks take influence from bands such as The Temperance Movement, Led Zeppelin, The Hoax and many others while clearly absorbing elements of rock & roll and blues as a means to establish their own style.

The Slicks now release their ‘Into The Night’ EP and we had a listen:

The Greasy Slicks

The title track has an amazing structural stability – as if the anxious guitars are cross-reinforced with strong vocals.

Jack’s voice is husky and mature. And strides manfully between the nuts and bolts.

The percussive framework binds the whole piece together to produce a fierce, yet attractive, amalgam of pain and pleasure.

Messing With My Head’ is more ‘Zeppy’ with a deep-throated guitar.

But the rockabilly rhythm is lighter than you might normally find on heavy blues numbers.

And that’s what takes this from just a rough copy of something vaguely like “Heartbreaker” and gives it a whirl around the dance floor.

The E.P. ends with ‘Wild Ones’ – which is a magnificent slow-burner. The voice really shines on this track.

And the culmination of pent-up emotions comes with a fizzing bubble burst of guitar sounds that foam into the void left by the sudden departure of thought.

A great start from a promising band
