MALKA, the alter-ego of former 6 Day Riot leader Tamara Schlesinger has released a new single titled ‘Taking It Back’ produced by Paul Savage (Mogwai, Franz Ferdinand, King Creosote). As the artist-known-as MALKA, she interweaves hypnotic rhythms with some pretty restless call-and-response timbrel-shimmer cantillations.
‘Taking It Back’ finds MALKA enlarging her sound further to integrate more electronics to magnificent effect to bring an breathless first taste of an approaching album.
The song (shared below) has the coolest of ice-drop textures, with (perhaps) distressingly high intonations, but the bump soon becomes comfortable, though its set amid squeezes and chirrups. Eventually, a soft snowflake of sounds becomes crystallized.
